The Sagittarius Ball is a semi formal charity event held each year. This year the proceeds go to the Mali Assistance Project. Come and dance the night away to the Hazel Miller Band. The cost is $25 in advance or $30 at the door. You can purchase advance tickets at: Marisol Imports, 915 Pearl, Boulder The Elks Lodge, 3975 28th St., Boulder Rockin' Robins, 124 2nd Ave., Niwot This generally has a big crowd, probably 200 to 300 people. It's in a big venue so the crowd doesn't crush you. I'll get there early and claim some space in the bar area. Look for us there. The location is in North Boulder, at the Elks Lodge. This is on 28th St about a half mile north of 28th and Iris, on the west side. You can't see the building from 28th, but there is a sign on 28th.

This is the reschedule of the cancelled hike on Nov. 15. I'd like to meet an hour later (9AM) than the original schedule. I'll check the conditions a few days before and let everyone know how much snow to expect. This hike is in Rocky Mountain Park. It can often be called "a hike into winter" in mid November. My past experience is that by the time we get to Fern Lake there will be a moderate amount of snow. The major reason to do this hike in November is the possibility of seeing the beautiful ice deposits on the tree limbs near Fern Falls. The hike is about 7-8 miles round trip, with about 1200 feet of elevation. Be prepared for snow and ice. If snowshoes are advised I'll let you know a few days before the hike. Meet at the Stone Cup in Lyons at 9AM. We'll car pool to the trail head from there. If you have a pass for Rocky Mountain Park, I suggest you bring it. For more info, email or call Glenn at 303 665 3423(h) or 303 217 0857(c).

Prepare for the upcoming Thanksgiving feast with a heart pounding hike. The plan is to climb to the saddle between the 1st and 2nd Flatirons starting at the Chatauqua Ranger Station. The hike is 3-4 miles round trip, with 1400 feet of elevation. It's pretty steep but there is a well maintained trail all the way. We will come back down the same way. Dogs are welcome. They must be on leash or have the "green" tag if off leash. Children, out of town visitors, etc. are more than welcome. We should be back to the ranger station between 11AM and Noon. The Chataqua ranger station is about 1 mile west and uphill from the corner of Broadway and Baseline in Boulder. You can park in the lot if there is space, or along the left side of Baseline. For more info, email Glenn or phone 303 665 3423(h) or 303 217 0857(c).

Lets go back to Bagalis this week. The menu is described as "Italian with a New Orleans flair." The owner has told me he will give us the half price bottles of wine deal any night of the week, so lets take advantage of it. I'll be there a little before 6PM as usual. Meet in the bar area up front. I'll try to flag down some tables. Any questions, email or call Glenn at 303 665 3423 (h) or 303 217 0857 (c).

Open fire has been reigniting the scene in Northern Colorado. Playing the best cover tunes from groups such as Motley Crue, Tesla, Whitesnake, Cinderella, Slaghter, Warrant, Firehouse, Guns and Roses, and more. Open Fire's show is a thundering metalfest of professional sound, lights, fog and 80's rock attitude that will make you feel like you've been to a rock concert. If you crave a pure rock and roll biker bar experience, you've got to sink your teeth into The Roadhouse. Located off I25 and CO-52, The Roadhouse is easy to get to and impossible to forget. No velvet rope...just iron and asphalt antics. Just ask for the Grey Wolves at the door. We've got 3 tables reserved and will have our Grey Wolf table toppers for everyone to see. They have great bar food and drink specials. The band plays at 9PM. In order to reserve the tables, we need to meet at 7PM. Stop by any time, we'll be rocking until closing time - of course. For those about to rock......we salute you! Lynette is coordinating this meetup. For more info, email her at wellslynette@yahoo.c om or phone 303 374 4001. If any people would like to meet at Lynette's house and car pool (she lives hear 120th and Sheridan) contact her to make arrangements. If you are wary about walking into a strange bar by yourself, carpooling or caravaning might be a good idea.

Gordon Biersch is a micro brewery featuring hand crafted beers and a lively happy hour. We have been there a couple of times before, with good turnouts each time. Their southwestern egg rolls and pot stickers are really yummy appetizers. I will be there a little before 6PM, as usual. I'll try to get some space in the bar area, probably in the back left. If in doubt, ask the seating person.

This hike does not get a lot of sun so last weeks snow will probably still be in evidence over much of the distance. Be prepared for snow and ice on the trail. If you own some sort of traction device, I'd suggest throwing it into your pack just in case. I would discourage doing this in running shoes or something of that ilk unless you are very confident of yourself on icy trails. I got the wrong name for this hike. It is actually called Lion Gulch. Since there is another hike named Myers Gulch somewhere near Morrison, I wanted to correct the name. All the rest of the details remain the same. This is a moderate hike of 7 to 9 miles which visits some old homesteads between Lyons and Estes Park. There are a lot of different options for where to hike depending on what homesteads we want to see. The elevation gain is about 1000 feet. Meet at 10AM at the Stone Cup coffee shop in Lyons. We will carpool to the trail head from there. Well behaved dogs are welcome and can be off leash on this trail. Expect to be back to Lyons between 4 and 5 PM. For more info either email or call Glenn at 303 665 3423 (h) or 303 217 0857 (c).

Lets try again to get together at the Village Tavern. We have had good turnouts there in the past. Hopefully the weather will cooperate this time. The Village Tavern is located in the Flatirons Village area, just south of the Flatirons Mall. They have happy hour specials until 6:30. I will be there a little before 6PM. I'll try to stake out some space in the bar area. Any questions, either email of call Glenn at 303 665 3423 (h) or 303 217 0857 (c).
