"Just ask at the bar for the Skittle Alley - we'll be in there from 7pm!"
--Suzanne O

Details

Folk have been playing skittles at The Sheep Heid Inn since the 16th century, and that tradition is still going strong. Reputed to be the oldest working skittle alley in the world, the current alley was built in 1882 on the site of the old stable block. Be assured it's not like any other ten-pin bowling you'll ever experience!

The alley houses two idiosyncratic lanes, which take some getting used to, and has seating at the rear and side, comfortably accommodating up to 40 people. The alley is separate from the rest of the pub so we have it all to ourselves!

The ancient game of skittles has been played here since medieval times. James VI is known to have been particularly fond of a game here!

"Of all the games that are so rare,

So rousing, keen, and kittle,

There's none with skittles can compare

The cream of Life's to Skittle.

Each Trotter acts his manly part

To joyous shout and sally;

It is the pastime of my heart,

And we play it in our Alley."

The Sheeps Heid Story so far....

We have the alley from 7pm-11.30pm - the price includes hiring of the Alley & a good selection of cold platters so dinner is included & will be more than enough to feed us all & then some! Buy your own drinks from this cosy little bar. This is edinburghs oldest exisiting pub & is just lovely....lets step back in time for some good old fashioned fun!!

The cost? a measly £6 for all you can eat (both veggie & carnivores catered for!) & hours of skittle hilarity with a great bunch of folk! What are you waiting for?? Its almost the weekend... smile

Once signed up Ill send out an email to the 'Yes's with payment details as this needs to be paid in advance so get your place booked quickly so as not to miss out! Payments due by 1st May.

Any Q's - just ask.

    have allowed a few more spaces Muz - reason Im not opening it up to 40 is that there are only two lanes - so as it stands that now 12 folk per lane - any more & we'd be there all night and only manage a few shots each....24 is my final limit! £6 due asap as I need to buy the buffet food a good week in advance (ie pre-order & pay for it) - ta - anyone need by bank details again just let me know. Cheers
