Details
Here are the specs:
Date: Saturday, May 10, 2008
Time: 6:00AM
Location: The infamous Orange Ladder near the ?Chessboard? area (about 600 meters north of Oak Street Beach). I plan to move the venue to Ohio Street Beach as the season progresses.
Swim plan: 10-20 minutes of low exertion swimming depending upon the temperature/weather
Notes: With the recent 80F weather, the lake temperature has spiked up to 58F - but don?t expect it to stay there. I?m still predicting it will be 50F - 55F (10C - 12.5C) on Saturday, so prepare accordingly.
I know some of you have signed up for triathlons or swim events this season, so here's your chance to get a jump on the swim part! The water's pretty "bracing" at the moment, but it's definitely doable with a wetsuit and the right accessories. For more details on equipment, cold water swim techniques, and lake conditions, check out this site:
FYI, any updates or changes will be posted to the Open Water Chicago website, which I suggest you review as we get closer to Saturday. I hope to see you out there!
