Seneca Creek BackpackingHi everyone, we're getting down to the wire here! Only a week left! Some not-quite-last-minute details & info for ya:
- Please try to make it to the Test Pack this Friday. Saw that Heather & Ben can't make it, we'll just catch up with you guys down there. But if you can make it at all, it's a good idea to show up so we can chat & meet each other. Even if you've been on a hundred backpacking trips, there will be some new folks and they would probably like to meet you too. We are hoping to incorporate a shakedown into all of our longer/more difficult backpacking trips, so your attendance will be helpful in getting an idea of experience of the group. Plus all the joy of gear sharing and carpools! And it's at REI! Stuff to buy! We'll probably be finished by about 8:30 and then trek over somewhere for food & maybe some Cold Ones.
- Speaking of the Joy of Carpooling, the fabulous Leah
has compiled all the fabulous carpool offers & requests on this thread. Take a look, see where you can fill in a space or offer a spare seat. We can carpool with the campground campers too, we're all starting from the same place....
- We are going to max the trip out at 20 people. We have 18 confirmed so far, and i've reserved enough campsites that we should all fit in the campground on Friday night. I've included the maybes on this one, remember the first two to pay get the spots!
- Since we have such a large group, we will probably split into two groups and do the hike from opposite directions. Another leader is needed for the second group. Am working on getting maps for us. Try & have an idea about whether you can keep up a fast pace throughout the day or you'd rather take your time. I'll be sweeping the more laidback group, by default. :) Can work out groups & leaders at the test pack and over the following week.
- Another factor will be those going on the Via Ferrata and those not. At the test pack I'll make a beginning list and we'll see what people want to do from there.
- Gear: there is a whole message thread on gear sharing. A few pairs of extra socks may be helpful too, we might have to get our feet wet. You might also want to bring a swimsuit and a packtowel--lots of great watering holes. Also don't forget a camera! If you aren't really familiar with backcountry basics, please let Amy know ASAP. A basic backpacking essentials list is posted here
from several years ago. Useful.
Also, as a general disclaimer, i'm planning on bringing my dog unless the weather calls for thundershowers. Please let me know ahead of time if she will make you uncomfortable; she's about 60 lbs of crazy, but she's generally well behaved. At the end of the first day she'll be wiped out and probably calm for the rest of the trip. She'll be sleeping in my tent, which could probably fit another dog lover (it's a four man).
Currently the weather is calling for showers on Friday with Sun on Saturday but the forecast doesnt go any further than that. That could change, I'll send another email next week with a more current forecast. and my phone number. This is a rain or shine trip. Be prepared for the weather!

Please continue to use the other threads to discuss the details, just wanted to have this info archived somewhere for reference and it won't fit on the event page. :)
