We will volunteer along side others and help prepare and serve a hot meal to those who appreciate it most. In the morning we will have a brief orientation of The Door is Open by the coordinators of LUMS.ca. We will then get down to work preparing and organizing food which we will serve to our guests. Our donations will go towards the purchasing, preparing and creating of the bagged lunch; take away food is important for those hungry later on in the day. With a few smiles and some clean up, we will feel satisfied we have done our part. We hope you can join us. Then we will enjoy ourselves in the sports style lounge , comfortable furniture, a large spectator area, a well-stocked bar with hot snacks and a wide-screen television. No previous experience is necessary! Price includes all equipment, lessons, instructors and taxes. Clothing: Please dress warmly but wear comfortable, loose-fitting sport type clothes. Your shoes must be clean (clean at home beforehand) and carry them in, do not wear your shoes into the arena. Your shoes should have a good sole that will grip on the ice. Our tour of the Brewery facilities will begin with an introduction to the process of making beer, we will touch on several topics which include the ingredients and the equipment used to produce Canada’s favourite beverage. We will receive a step by step description of the distilling process and contemplate R&B ’s 4 ingredient transformation, by the accomplished brew master. Lois from Natural Trekking will take us up the new Whyte Lake trail; the trail is a work of art in itself. In addition to its wild, untouched scenery, this trail is the connector between the Baden Powell trail and the Trans Canada Trail which was previously inaccessible. New handrails by steep bluffs have been installed, two wooden bridges have been built on the trail, and nearly 300 metres of boardwalk placed over sensitive wetlands. Whyte Lake has important environmental values and is part of a watershed so we must protect this fragile area. The trail is of moderate elevation up the Whyte Creek Canyon through old growth Douglas-fir. We will hike up to this amazing lake through wetland areas, gentle undulating uphill slopes, amazing forests and meadows. We will stop for a short picnic on Whyte Lake's wild shores. Join us for this fascinating journey and a fun workout!
