The Sewers Trip: An Adventure of Sight, Sound, and SMELL!
Come one, come all you hearty Paris Urban Adventurers! You know that you've always wanted to experience the true underworld of Paris, now is your chance!
We will meet at the entrance kiosk across from 93, quai d'Orsay at 2pm and begin our descent there. Bring your camera to take home memories for the kiddies and a butterfly net to catch any floating treasures! It would stand to reason that you probably don't want to wear your fanciest clothes for this trip.
Fast Facts (who said adventures couldn't be educational?):
- The sewers of Paris date to 1200 when Phillipe Auguste paved the streets of Paris and incorporated a drain in the middle. From those humble beginnings, the sewer system has grown to over 2,000km of underground tunnels and passageways.
- Every day, 1.2 million cubic meters of wastewater have to be collected.
- Every year, 15,000 cubic meters of solid waste are taken out and disposed of.
