Memorial Day weekend at lodge in Delaware Gap Recreation Area

Time update.. meet at the Willowbrook mall at 10am. We'll arrive at Mohican at 11am.

The Appalachain Mountain Club has a great facility on the New Jersey side of the Delware Watergap National Recreation Area called the Mohican Outdoor Center.

For the long, Memorial Day weekend, we'll go for Saturday and part of Sunday.

We'll head up there Saturday morning, spend the day outside, make dinner and hang out in the main lodge. On Sunday, we'll get some more outside time in and then head out and be home in time for dinner.

There are hiking trails all around the lodge as well as a large pond with canoes and kayaks provided by the AMC. Blairstown is also well known for horseback riding and miles of rails to trails for biking.

Lodging will be in a bunkhouses that have electricity, showers and flush toilets that sleep 2, 4 or 6 to a room with bunk beds.

There is no cleaning service so everyone will have to help with meals and cleaning in our bunkhouse.

The actual cost of lodging will be $27 for non AMC members on a holiday weekend. I'm setting the fee at $50 to cover food, transportation and a starter amount of drinking money. Please let me know if you don't drink.

Reserve space in the lodge by calling them directly at 908 362-5670 and tell them you want a bunk for Saturday night. . Please keep in mind that the person answering the phone is a volunteer and is the only person there so may have to leave a message. I can make a reservation for you if you get the money to me.

I'll help make dinner on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. Lunches will be something that can carried with you. Please share your dietary restrictions when you RSVP.

If anyone wants to offer entertainment on Saturday night, be in playing a guitar, singing, portable music system or board game, please bring whatever you need with you.

Transportation will be by carpooling. A portion of your fee will go to drivers.

For a packing list, please bring the following:

• pillow and either sheets or a sleeping bag
  
• towel
  
• toiletries
  
• flip flops
  
• change of clothes in case your boat flips and you end up in the water
  
• anything else you'd want with you for a night away
