Where:
Bodenburg Butte (45 min North)– about 10 minutes from Palmer, and about 45 minutes from Anchorage along the Old Glenn Hwy (take the Old Glenn Hwy exit as you are heading north out of Anchorage toward the MatSu Valley).

This 881 foot mound affords phenomenal views of the famous mountains of the MatSu valley which surround it (esp. the most recognizable and highest peak of the MatSu valley: Pioneer Peak).

Once at the top of "The Butte", you get a great view of the Matsu Valley, Knik Glacier off in the distance, and probably the best view you can get of Pioneer Peak. In amongst the mountainous landscape you will see the Knik Glacier. This hike can be a bit strenuous, but it can be hiked comfortably to the top and back in about 1 hour.
Meet:
at Carrs Wasilla by Kaladi Brothers. We can also swing by Vagabond Blues in Palmer if anyone would like to meet there.

When:
6:00 P.M. Wed. May 14 in Wasilla
6:30 or 6:45 at Vagabond in Palmer

Trailhead:
Sanvik Family Trail. Go through Palmer. Take the Old Glenn Hwy. over the bridge and past the first Bodenburg Loop Rd. (at the flashing stoplight).

Take the next right which is The other end of Bodenburg Loop. Take a right and go 1/4 to 1/2 mile. On the right is parking at Sanvik Family Trail.

Cost:
There may be a box that asks for $3.00 donation.
Someone robbed it so sometimes they say not to put money in the box but they may ask for money.

Pets:
dogs allowed if well behaved or on leash.

Contact:

I'm definitely planning on going. I hope to have three friends along too.

I have never done this one. It is a popular trail.

Four of us met at Carrs in Wasilla. We met at the Butte. Some of us parked at Dave and Wendy's house. Evie, Anna, Dave, HariAtma and Gurubandhu went up the Butte as we thought we were the only ones from Meetup. We arrived a little before 7:00. We met another Meetup group on the way up. At the top there were 2 more of us so there was a pretty good turnout. It was a little windy but the view was great. Dave showed us some spots we have visited before in the lowlands and the fire from 2 months ago. Also, he showed us better routes since the Butte is basically in his backyard. Met some new people, had a strenuous hike in a relatively short period of time and had fun. What more could we want?
